When Is The Best Time To Fertilize For The Greenest Lawn?

When Is The Best Time To FertilizeFertilization has a significant effect for all types of lawn, and applying it rationally improves composition, i.e. decreases the proportion of non-valuable species and increases the percentage of valuable grasses.

Types of lawn fertilizer

Specialists recommend a slow release organic lawn fertilizer in the form of granules; they have a constant effect during several weeks, regardless of climatic factors and the amount of water resulting from irrigation or precipitations.

Other types of classical fertilizers can be used for lower costs, but their effects are short and do not provide the lawn with the elements and micronutrients it needs for proper development during the vegetation period.

Most fertilizers are applied by scattering them on the lawn. Fertilization through irrigation is not so effective; because some factors (wind, water pressure), the fertilizing solution is not evenly distributed. As such, some areas of the lawn will receive a big amount of solution, while others will remain poorly fertilized. Costs are lower than for granular fertilizer, but the results are definitely not as good.

Typically, the lawn must be fertilized approximately 3 times a year: spring (March - April), summer (June - August) and autumn (September - October). This may vary depending on the type of fertilizer used.
