One of the best things you can do for the health of your lawn is a core-aeration, and fall is an excellent season to do it. Aeration opens the soil to enable better penetration of water and fertilizer, and it also reduces compaction and allows the root system to expand over fall and winter before the stress of the next growing season begins.
For best results water your lawn the day before, so the 3” plugs can easily be removed.
A couple other benefits to aerating in the fall are after the plugs are removed it’s a great time to use a recommended best lawn fertilizer and put down grass seed if you need to patch a few spots or thicken up your lawn.
