How To Choose The Right Fertilizer For Your Project

Fertilizer And Compost For Healthy PlantsIn periods of intense activity – growth, flowering, fruiting – plants consume the most nutrients. If the soil is not sufficiently rich in nutrients or if thermal stress occurs (excessive cold or significant temperature variations between night and day), the plant will not be able to feed properly. Sometimes you may discover plants suffering in your garden: yellowed or twisted leaves, dried flowers, small and frail stem, small fruits etc. All these are signs that you need to use fertilizers and one of the best compost to help your plants stay healthy and make flowers and fruits.

What do you do after you identify these signs?

The first thing you should do is to consult with a specialist. They will help you determine the type of fertilizer you need, the dosage (excess nutrients may have negative effects) and the method of application (for example, foliar fertilizer has a faster effect).

In general, fertilizers are chosen based on the pH of the soil and the plants` needs. E.g:

  • When the top of the leaf is slightly pale and the lower part is yellow, it is a sign of lack of nitrogen.
  • When the tip and the edges of the leaf are yellow, it is a sign of lack of potassium.
  • When the leaves are a darker than normal, it is a sign of lack of phosphorus.
